AmeriCorps is a component of the National Service Network. Its goal is to engage Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to help meet communities' critical education, public safety, environmental, and other human needs. AmeriCorps is often referred to as the "Domestic Peace Corps."

Northwest Florida State College sponsors two teams of AmeriCorps members.  The Northwest Florida State College English Coaches is a school-based program where members are trained to tutor students grades K-12 that are either English Language Learners, Economically Disadvantaged or Ethnic Minorities who are reading below grade level. They receive a taxable living allowance and a $4,725 education award voucher at the end of the service year. Half-time members serve 900 hours and receive a reduced living allowance and education award. Other benefits include healthcare insurance, childcare, and student loan deferment for those qualified.

All students are encouraged to contact the AmeriCorps office for volunteer opportunities. Federal Work Study students interested in working as a reading tutor may contact the AmeriCorps office for placement information.
