Northwest Florida State College Background Info

Northwest Florida State College is one of Florida’s 28 public community colleges and is accredited to award Associate and Bachelor degrees, short term technical and vocational certificates and applied technology diplomas. Northwest Florida State College also offers adult basic education, high school equivalency instruction, English-as-a-Second Language, non-credit continuing education, retirement learning and customized training for business and industry. Northwest Florida State College’s six campuses and centers offer extensive day, evening and weekend classes in 9 terms per year (three regular terms and six fast-track terms). Northwest Florida State College tuition is among the lowest in Florida. Active duty military and their dependents stationed in Florida qualify for in-state fees. Residents of Alabama qualify for border state fees—the in-state fee plus a nominal fee.

In addition to the 264-acre Niceville Campus, Northwest Florida State College operates a joint campus with the University of West Florida in Fort Walton Beach. Northwest Florida State College also operates the Chautauqua Center in DeFuniak Springs, the Robert L.F. Sikes Education Center in Crestview, the South Walton Center and centers at Eglin AFB and Hurlburt Field.

Northwest Florida State College serves approximately 15,000 students annually. About 45 percent of students are age 24 and under, 24 percent of students are age 25 to 34 and 24 percent are age 35 to 49.

Northwest Florida State College offers extensive Distance Learning options through which students may earn credit in nearly 80 different college classes, through online or text-based instruction.

The Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center on the Niceville campus houses instructional programs in the Humanities, Fine and Performing Arts as well as art galleries and theater performance space for both college productions and travelling events from across the nation.
